A wonderful Valentine and an old fellow that had too much moonshine...

I really do believe Janet's Valentine make-do has put me in the Valentine spirit! Janet over at Winter Willow Primitives offered this adorable make-do for just $1 (to cover the paypal charge transaction) and the cost of shipping. How nice was that! I seemed to be in the right spot at the right time because I was the lucky person in line to leave a lil' comment and be able to purchase the Valentine make-do! Thank you so much Janet!

Now, things like that rarely happen to me - being at the right place at the right time. Why just yesterday, we were coming home from baby doctor check-ups and vaccinations when a poor' old fellow (who had a little too much moonshine) decided he was going to use the main road as a sidewalk and leisurely stroll down the avenue. Ok, 'stroll' might not be the right term for the poor old fellow.. He was more 'stumbley and tumbley but I didn't want to sound disrespectful.. Thank goodness he didn't get hurt but guess who was in line behind about 50 cars moving 10 mph.. Oh yep! Me!
I was happy to see a nice Police Officer come to the rescue and help the whistlin' old fellow off the road after about 25 minutes..

Hello everyone!! XOXO

My goodness I can't even tell you how excited I was to log in today and see 6 wonderful friends joined my humble little blog here! Welcome welcome! I was so excited that I had to run out to the garage to tell my husband! He is busy out there cutting wood for me so that I can share some fun projects with you all while he is away playin' Army man very soon. It sure does help pass the long evenings while he is away to have projects to work on after the children are nestled in bed.
I better get all my house chores done over here so that I can hurry back and post a few new things that I
have ready for you all!
I just had to say hello and good morning first though!

I will have to share a picture looking out my back yard window of the 'snow storm we had here in North Carolina over the night. Having grown up in Michigan, I still chuckle a lil' at what my southern friends call a
'snow storm'... (I will whisper this so I don't offend my southern friends but - shhh but- there is only about an inch of snow in my area.. I can still see grass.. ) All of my northern friends are shaking their heads I know..

Shhhh.. sometimes going green puts a lil' bee in my bonnet..

I wanted to sneak in one more post about a little pet peeve of mine...
Those darn energy saver light bulbs.. Now I do love the fact that they help the earth and save a little money, but they aren't the cutest bulbs on the block' are they.. sigh
When we moved into our new home here, my husband loaded us all into the truck and we headed off to Home Depot to buy new door locks and handles (which I enjoyed picking out) but then.... also a cart full of the CFL light bulbs to replace every single bulb in the house..

Now, a year and a half ago they didn't have the 'warm white version. The only option at the time was the (ughh) crisp white.. Which isn't the most flattering light I must say..
Since these light bulbs will last 10,000 million years I am stuck with the harsh light until they burn out by a natural death...

I was thinking I might try (gulp) dipping them in the prim little silicone mix to give them a lil' prim look?
I know I know! It sounds scary! The thought of what could go wrong scares me also! But I think it might be worth a shot and a ton easier then trying to convince my husband we should respend another small fortune and re-replace all the crisp white bulbs with the warm white version..
I will keep you updated!

P.S. Do you want to know how much I love all of you?
Well, I have been typing away here keeping my 22 month old busy next to me in his high chair.
So far while typing, we have played peek-a-boo, ate Cheerios, and did a little coloring with toddler crayons and paper... The paper didn't last very long.. It seems he enjoys expressing his artistic ability much more when paper isn't involved.. He has made quite the masterpiece right on his highchair tray.
I love you all enough to let him do that while I finished saying my lil' blog hello knowing I will be scrubbing the crayon off his tray shortly! lol
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Much love,
Jobeth xoxoxox

Karen's goodies arrived!

I was so very lucky to purchase a few of the many primfully perfect primitives Karen from-
My Colonial Home had for sale at her online yard sale! It was such a treat when the goodies arrived! I even had a double treat when I logged on this morning to find Karen had visited!
Hi Karen! xox
I just know today will be a great day now that I had a happy surprise to start my day! Thank you!

It is so much fun to peek in on Karen's wonderful blog. You will find oodles of charming stories and pictures that will surely bring a smile to your face. Don't even get me started on the pizza recipe she posted! YUM!! I'm almost afraid to show my husband because I know he will give me that 'puppy dog eye look' and I then I will find myself at the grocery store tonight buying all the essentials to make that amazing deep dish pizza! I have been trying to hold out for the weekend because then he can come with me, help out with the kiddies and be the one who parks the truck in the parking lot. You see, we have a big Chevy Silverado truck and I get a little intimidated parking it in the tiny spots so I end up parking all the way in the back of the parking lot. lol!

Here are a few pictures of Karen's goodies all snuggled into their new home xox
I adore this little basket. It's new job in life will be holding my little ones crayons and markers on the children's art table... And oh my gosh! Only washable markers I should add...
I have learned that lesson time and time again! whew!

The cookie cutters that are just too darn cute for words!

Two adorable little wire hand hangers that hang on the little
trash to treasure' shelf that I made into a chalk board in the children's art area.. xoxoxox

Little primitive reproductions of baking molds.. Aren't they sweet!

Thank you so much again Karen! I had such a fun time shopping at your online yard sale!
My only regret is that I didn't get there sooner before so many things had already sold!

A gift cherished for over 25 years..

I think of Mrs. Sims often and always hope the years have only been kind to her.
She is the mother of my most wonderfulest-bestest' childhood friend Wendy.
Mrs. Sim's home was filled with wonderful treasures she made and decorated to prim perfection complete with a cozy wood burning stove in the family room.
I can still picture her sewing on a large old floor style sewing machine in a little area she lovingly tucked away for herself close to the room her boys shared downstairs.
I think one of my fondest memories of Mrs. Sims is the love she shared with her husband Mr. Sims. Always holding hands and smiling at each other. They truly enjoyed every moment of the busy day they got to spend with each other. I just know they are still that way to this day.
Thank you Mrs. Sims for the wonderful doll that you made and gave to me.
I have cherished her and thought of you so very often during the years. xoxoxox
All my love,
Jobeth

New friends are wonderful!

I wanted to share a story of a wonderful new friend that I met named Liz.
A few weeks ago I was in the office working on my lil' blog here when a knock came at my door. It was a nice lady named Liz who came by asking about a large wooden prim doll I have on my front door. It's the same doll that I posted pictures of a few blog posts below. It turns out that Liz loves primitives as much as I do and has filled her home with many prim treasures she has found and made. I showed her around my home and had such a great visit with her. We exchanged phone numbers and kept in touch through the week sharing ideas and talking about the passion of primitives we both share. Over the past weekend my husband cut her out a few wood patterns on a large piece of plywood she had dropped of so that she could make a front door doll and pineapple of her very own. When she stopped over yesterday afternoon to pick up the wood, she brought me the most wonderful gifts!
Isn't she so very talented!
I will cherish these gifts!
Thank you so much Liz xoxoxox
I truly love them!

A wood box playin' dress-up xOx

Everybody needs a lil' spiffin' up from time to time! I am just so tickled with the way this box turned out. I think I will be making quite a few to store lil' needful things in the pantry, children's rooms, bathrooms, office...
My goodness stop me!
Wouldn't a big box be great to give as a gift for a new baby filled with baby lotions, diaper creams, and all sorts of baby essentials for a new mom to have handy right near the changing table?

Wooden Boxes & Large Wooden Shelf Sitters for your windows

All coming this week... My first box turned out really cute -all covered in fabric and aged to ole' po'folk perfection. I hope you might want to make one for yourself! I also want to share another project I am working on. A large prim wooden shelf sitter to place in my upstairs window to greet passerby's.. xoxoxox

Have a wonderful Sunday!

No more melted candles on the porch!

I solved this problem once and for all.... whew!
Ok, I cheated a little by having my husband cut the candles out of a wood dowel .. lol
But! -Now I can finally hang this candle holder out on the porch without having a melted mess on my hands....I won't even mention the time while moving to the new house when my husband put some candles in the truck while loading up the back...in July...

I think it will be fun to switch out the wood candles for holidays.
Spooky black grubby candles with torn stained
cheesecloth spiderwebs would be cute during Halloween!

Treasure Hunting...

I found this adorable shelf at a wonderful prim store called 'Prim and Proper' in my area.
I always look forward to going into the store and seeing what new treasures they have.
I think I will paint then prim' up the hinges and remove the little wreath..
To hang it or not to hang it... That is the question.... hmmm

Our first Shoo-Fly Cover and Stove Board

The 'Shoo-Fly covers are definitely a lil' challenging to make, but I think our first one turned out pretty darn good! I am also very happy how our first Noodle/Stove Board came out.. Whew! Don't cha' just love it when a project falls together nicely without too much fuss!

I apologize that the colors in the photos are a little off. They are much darker/warmer & prettier in person.
The color of the Stove Board is a warm prim'ed up butterscotch and the color on the Shoo-Fly metal is a deep rusted dark brown with black.
I think I might try prim'ed up all black next time on the Shoo-Fly cover...
What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by!
With love,
Jobeth

Shoo-Fly Covers & Noodle/Stove Boards

My husband and I have been busy little bees working on making some super prim 'Shoo-Fly Covers and Noodle/Stove Boards.. I think they are turning out just as I had imagined in my head. I am in the process of primin' up the first Shoo-Fly cover to give it the beloved 'tattered and torn, loved and worn look.. As I prim them up I imagine an old southern plantation kitchen worker gal using them to cover the pies she just pulled out of the hot oven to place in the large windowsill to cool... My husband is out in the garage cutting beautiful old wood for the 2 noodle/stove boards as I type. I'm excited to get to painting them when he is done. I will make sure to post pictures this week. We will have some large Shoo-Fly Covers for sale and looking for fresh baked pies to cover!

Waiting for a piece of pie I bet! xox

Thank you Karen! xox

Just a little note this morning to thank Karen over at the very charming  'My Colonial Home'  blog for posting her wonderful online yard sale! I was so excited to have been able to purchase a few of her wonderful primitive items.

I know when the box of goodies arrive it will surely feel like Christmas again! I will make sure to post pictures so that Karen will be able to peek in and see that her items are cozy and cherished in their new home here.. I will also remember her generosity each time I look at them!

I might be a little bored....

Front porch blahs xox

My goodness my front porch looks so plain now that all of the Christmas goodies have been packed away for another year... I just finished the wooden doll and pineapple a few days ago to put out on the porch, but I'm still feeling it needs a touch of something else... sigh..
This summer will mark 2 years since we moved into our new house and for the past 18 months I am continuously pondering on how to decorate our porch...

*The large wooden 'Simplify doll was inspired by a pattern I saw in the Spring 2009 - Mercantile Gatherings magazine from Piney Creek Primitives.. The pineapple is just a lil' pattern I had floating around in my head..

Gosh the holidays just flew by!

All moved into the new house - Summer of 2008

What to do? What to do?
I surely need some ideas! xoxo

Love & Prim Blessings~ xoxo

~Deployment Dammit Dolls~

If there is one thing I surely dread its when my husband has to deploy.. Whether it's for 10 days or 10 months I feel as though the days creep by endlessly.. I thought it might be fun to make some Dammit Dolls to help take out deployment aggressions! lol

Step One: Finding their lil' personalities.. Bless their prim hearts...

Step Two: I paint them with a cinnamon, vanilla, coffee and acrylic craft paint wash...

Step Three: Time for a lil' baking at 200* (I like to do one side at a time)

Step Four: Naked little prim folk waiting for some clothes to be sewn!

Step Five: Thinking of an outfit thats not too fancy for a prim gal who has washin' and lil' ones to look after!

Step Six: A homespun dress and old cheesecloth poor folk' bonnet will do..

Step Seven: Primfills version of the Dammit Doll poem...

Step Eight: Waiting to be adopted.. xox

Hello new friends! xoxox

Oh my gosh! Blogging is a new thing for me so please forgive me and the dust here while I figure out how everything works! whew! I am slowly but surely working on resizing photos of our prim and colonial inspired house to share. I have loved this style of decorating for as long as I can remember. I am so excited to share crafting and decorating ideas with new friends and talented, inspiring kindred spirits. I refer to myself as an 'old school crafter lol.. I can remember the first time I saw the silicone dipped bulbs, probably over 15 years ago and trying to figure out how it was done and then triumphantly dipping night light bulbs in silicone filled Dixie cups late at night - wondering how to hang them after the fact lol. Whew! I have experienced many trials and tribulations along my crafting way.. I am also excited to add the blogs of the talented ladies I have spent many mornings and evenings haunting their blogs and feeling their inspiration. xoxo Thank you!
I also must mention how very inspired I am by Netty Lacroix.. I cannot express enough how beautiful I think her work is. I fell in love with her patterns the very first time I purchased one and it arrived in the mail. I remember holding it in my hands and it felt like Christmas morning. The attention to every hand touched detail was charming beyond words. I adored the paper heart and dried herb sprig that was tied around the pattern and display it in my crafting area to remind me of her inspiration. I truly strive to pass along the magical feeling to my customers that she so graciously gives...
I am thrilled to share ideas and meet new friends. Living a military life can be a lonely little place while my husband is away so I truly welcome your friendship!
With much love,
Jobeth
